The backpack was a surprise. We keep talking about wanting to take Owen "hiking" and the stroller wouldn't cut it. Surprisingly we have an awesome nature preserve about 10 minutes from our house that we don't take advantage of enough.
I had a minor break down Saturday trying to figure out how to balance everything...my family, Merrick family, OUR family. We ended up deciding to forgo church and spend the morning together with breakfast and let Owen take a normal nap. When Owen took a nap we actually did too, it was wonderful. Around noon we headed to my Mom's for lunch. We sat outside and enjoyed the beautiful day.

It was nice to not be on a timeline and just relax, we have since decided this is how we will now spend holidays. Doing what makes sense for Merrick, Owen and I. We love our families and love spending time with both of them, but at a point it becomes overwhelming. Especially when our families are located about 45 minutes apart. We left my Mom's around 5:00 headed home, fed Owen dinner then headed out on our hike. Surprisingly Owen loves the backpack, he normally gets bored and wants to move on to something else within 5 minutes. Not in the backpack though, he has been in it for 2 hours and loves every minute of it.
We came home around 8:00 and received a text from our Photographer, Owen pictures were ready!! We got him ready for bed and sat down and watched the slide show. They are amazing, we both sat and cried watching them. How did our baby grow up so fast? Who is this little man smiling at us! It is a crazy emotion, I love watching him learn and grow up but just want it to slow down a little bit at the same time.
Such a great day....my first Mother's Day will never be forgotten.
I am trying to wait until his Birthday party to show off all his pictures. Speaking of his birthday, 12 more days until my baby is One and 16 until the big birthday bash!
I got this a few days ago from Owen's sitter, talk about big boy!

Hey! Just read this one and I just had to comment that we have decided the same for holidays! We did our own thing on Mother's Day and it felt great not having to drive to Hudson and then back again! It's nice that when you have a little one you have a reason not to be the one traveling all over the place!
